FAQs

What is the Elijah School all about?

Elijah School is a Christ-centered middle and high school that specializes in hands-on learning both in the classroom and in real-world experiences. We do this by combining a Maryland-approved curriculum with outside clinical work experience and a distinctive mentoring program. Elijah School is uniquely capable of serving non-traditional learners in an encouraging and supportive environment.

What is Elijah School’s philosophy?

We emphatically believe that all people are created by God and therefore have value and purpose. In light of this truth, we envision a generation where all students can attain the goal of becoming well-educated, passionate, intentional young people who live in healthy relationship with themselves, their faith, and their community.

What does Elijah School teach about faith?

Briefly, we are non-denominational, but we are John 14:6 Christians. We believe the Bible to be the infallible and inspired Word of God, and as such is the supreme authority for our daily lives. The students pray together each morning, and every Friday after lunch the entire school gathers to pray together. Biblical precepts and worldview are woven throughout our curriculum. We will be happy to send you our complete Statement of Faith.

What is unique about Elijah School’s curriculum?

We believe in the importance of skills beyond core curriculum subjects. Therefore we also have classes in Social Skills, Business Planning, Consumer Math, and Home Maintenance, to name just a few. Every Tuesday afternoon the students participate in some clinical work experience designed to both educate and help the students explore different career paths; these have included horse-handling, home repair, trail-clearing, painting a missionary’s house, and barn cleaning for Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding Program.

Tell us about Elijah’s mentoring program.

Each of our students is assigned a mentor who has been trained by our professional licensed Guidance Counselor. The students and mentors meet and spend time with each other every week to establish goals, talk about challenges, recognize successes, and generally help build the students up.

Who are your teachers?

All of our teachers are full-time college-educated professionals committed to helping your child succeed. The background of our teachers is varied, including homeschool educators, professional teachers, and even a former business executive. Elijah School’s Steering Committee makeup is of Christians with gifts in counseling, financial matters, and K-12 education.
